Land use. Labor This research was undertaken to gauge the state of effectiveness of occupational safety and health committees (EOSHCs) in the Malaysian manufacturing sector and the determinants of their effectiveness. OSHCs are forms of representative employee involvement mandated by section 30 of the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994. Most importantly, OSHCs are integral to the occupational safety and health (OSH) ‘self-regulation’ approach adopted in Malaysia since 1994. In order to execute this study within the framework of past research, and bearing in mind the peculiarity of the Malaysian manufacturing environment, a research model was derived from the Eaton and Nocerino (2000) model. This derived research model drove the primary research method of the study that was the survey method. Qualitative data was collected via interviews and one open ended question (in the survey instrument) and analysed at three stages of the research design process. In essence, the findings of the qualitative data were supportive of the development of the derived research model and the findings of the quantitative study. 2012-10 Thesis http://shdl.mmu.edu.my/5224/ http://vlib.mmu.edu.my/diglib/login/dlusr/login.php phd doctoral Multimedia University Faculty of Management
