Summary: | In this research, a biometric template protection method that encompasses multiple biometrics fusion, feature transformation and bit-extraction is proposed. Normally, the fusion of different biometrics forms a multi-biometrics system that offers some advantages over unibiometric system such as - higher degree of freedom, less prone to spoof attacks, and lower error rates. In the proposed solution, biometric information from fingerprint and palmprint are first fused at feature level. In this context, the scanned fingerprint and palmprint images are cropped to extract their region of interest (ROI). Subsequently, a bank of Gabor filters is used to extract the salient features from the fused images. Experiment results show that the proposed fusion method offers better performance and it is more robust compared to unibiometric approaches using solely fingerprint or palmprint biometrics. |
