Computer science The purpose of this study is to explore the current scenario of e-learning avatars among students, so as to identify the significance of e-learning avatar in higher education. Two exploratory case studies (i.e., user survey and design preferences) were conducted to gain some insights on the scenario. Descriptive research method was employed to gather information about the present existing condition whereby the emphasis is on describing rather than on judging or interpreting (Creswell 1994). Data was obtained from primary sources i.e.; questionnaire surveys and secondary sources i.e.; journals, articles, books, magazines, internet, conferences and etc. Three types of data were gathered; close-ended questions, open-ended question and, students visual interpretation which took on the combination of quantitative and qualitative approach of research. Data collected from the close-ended surveys are analyzed using SPSS 13.0 Windows, data collected from the open-ended questionnaire are coded manually and analyzed using the most favored items drawn from the answers provided whereas data on students’ visual interpretation are categorized based on the characters drawn. The study was conducted at Faculty of Creative Multimedia, Multimedia University, Cyberjaya, Malaysia involved 208 mix origin students age range from early 20's to late 20’s. Questionnaires were distributed to all the respondents after their specific class lectures (at the studio and labs) in hard copy mode of delivery and they completed the questionnaire within the period. 2011-12 Thesis http://shdl.mmu.edu.my/6290/ http://library.mmu.edu.my/diglib/onlinedb/dig_lib.php masters Multimedia University Faculty of Creative Multimedia
