Description
Summary:Our culture and heritage is the showcase of our ancestor’s culture and tradition that we inherit. It shows how our forefathers have evolved and what they have achieved. It is something invaluable passed down from our forefathers thus our responsibility to pass it down to the next generation and for future generations to come. The use of a digital preservation method especially three dimensional (3D) scanning methods has been a growing trend in the culture and heritage domain. However, it remains foreign to the Malaysian culture and heritage community. The aim of this research is to develop a workflow of 3D scanning for the digital preservation of local culture and heritage artefacts. Using Mah Meri mask as a case study, this research will determine a suitable method and the process of acquiring and documenting culture and heritage artefacts in Malaysia. This research also will include the study and the review of existing 3D scanning technologies and the existing workflows. Two tool sets of qualitative methods were applied in this research in order to give an insight into the process of acquiring and documenting the culture and heritage artefact in Malaysia and the proposed workflows to scan the artefact for the culture and heritage digital preservation in Malaysia.
