Summary:This study was carried out to find out the main types of motivation (extrinsic, social, achievement & intrinsic) and how the motivation influence the student to join music education and make music teaching as their future career. A total of 40 respondents from music education student were randomly selected to participate in this study. A set of questionnaire was designed in order to gain the primary data from the respondents regarding their main types of motivation and its influences for them to join music education and make music teaching as their future career. The overall findings of this study indicate that more than half of the respondents were motivated to join music education and make music teaching as their career by the intrinsic motivation compared to other external motivations (Extrinsic, Social and Achievement). Each of the motivation types had influence the respondents in different angles to motivate them to practice. In conclusion, throughout the years the external motivation will tend to change to the enjoyment and became intrinsic motivation.
