Summary:In the 20th century, people had been facing so many changes in their life. This circumstance can be clearly seen for Malaysian citizen whom live happily in this fast growing develops country from its economic aspect. Furthermore, the revolution of information caused the world became smaller and overseas influences effected our country in just one second. Today, western influences always take places in every heart of the people. This circumstance can be clearly seen in post-colonial country such as Malaysian. In passionate for the development, a lot of idea from outside had been brought to the local context without considering its suitability to the local situation. This caused our heritage which had been formed in hundred years lost it value in just one blink. One of our most valuable heritage, which also threaten is the old town identity. They have to give a way to the development due to a lot of pressure, which will be discussed later. This caused new building which had been constructed in the centre of the old town fabric did not respect its surrounding context. This circumstance is very upsetting because the old town condition has its own aesthetic value, and high potential for tourism sector, besides its appearance able to give strong identity to the town. The objective of this dissertation is to exposition the conflict sources with a consideration to the world architectural style development and its influences to the Malaysian architecture. Moreover, the harmony concept will also be discussed in order to study the possibilities of new town combining with old town environment.
