The focus is on Madrasah Hamid Arabi, which is located at Lebuh Ah Quee, one of the areas under conservation zone in Georgetown, Penang. There is an urgent need to preserve the local cultural and architectural heritage such as Madrasah Hamid Arabi (as the first Islamic religious school in Penang), which is being threatened by the rapid pace of development as a result of the booming economy. Many heritage buildings have been demolished to make way for new development and many will be disappeared unless a strong move is made to promote sustainable urban development. Action should be taken by the local authorities to preserve the Madrasah building in order to prolong the life of the building because it has a strong historical value as the early Islamic education in Penang. 2001 Thesis https://ir.uitm.edu.my/id/eprint/44871/ https://ir.uitm.edu.my/id/eprint/44871/1/44871.pdf text en public degree Universiti Teknologi MARA Faculty of Architecture, Planning and Surveying Abdul Rahman, Amran
