Summary:Songket is a very valuable weaving art in Malay society. For centuries, songket has been woven by people in the Malay world for kings and nobles. The role of songket on the socio-culture of the Malay community cannot be denied since songket is still being used by the Royal institutions to this day. This research aims to obtain information about the motifs used in Kelantan’s songket design. Therefore, this study will be conducted fully in Kelantan by focusing on weaving areas and those who are involved in songket field. To support this study, the researcher will use qualitative methods. The outcome from this study is to discover the main motifs used by the songket weaver in Kelantan starting from year 1900 to 2015. However, the researchers have chosen to begin research from year 1931 until 2015. The motifs obtained will be categorized to observe the overall motifs which were used in Kelantan’s songket. The overall analysis of these motifs will also be able to observe the motifs that are still in use and the motifs that are no longer used in Kelantan’s songket. This research is expected to be a reference and help the community to understand and recognize the motifs used by the songket weavers in Kelantan. In addition, the results of this study will help songket industry in Kelantan to have its own identity through the motifs used in songket weaving.
