Summary:This study was an analytical study to translate costume prose from five great folklores written in manuscripts to a costume depiction by using the medium of illustration. Hikayat Malim Deman, Hikayat Raja Muda, Hikayat Malim Dewa, Hikayat Anggun Cik Tunggal, and Hikayat Awang Sulung Merah Muda were chosen as sources of study in identifying the types of prose that were described by the narrator of Pawang Ana and rewritten by Raja Haji Yahya. In these manuscripts, it also portrays a variety of costumes highlighting in the form of Classic Malay Poem. However, language used in folklore as written in the manuscripts are considered superior and implicit which is not directly stated. Some of the costumes prose from the classical terms also were not translated into the ideology of modern languages leading to a lack of interest and attention especially for the youngsters. Besides, a study on costumes used in folklore as written in the manuscripts according to a scope of scientific research and writing are also not much significantly discussed by most researchers. So the objective of this study is to identify the types of costumes that are recorded in these great manuscripts and describe the style use of prose words in garments, ornaments, equipment, and style of the wearer. To meet the objective, qualitative approaches with textual analysis methods, libraries review, observations, and interview methods were employed to achieve the studies objectives from the costumes mention in the five great manuscripts which been described thoroughly and showed high functional value that was in tandem with the patterns of narration.
