Summary:The main issue of this study is that many residents renovate their houses without prior approval. Majlis Perbandaran Petaling Jaya (MPPJ) as the Local Authority of this area must control the renovation work as to ensure that the work is in accordance with UBBL. MPPJ also concerned with the great numbers of house owners who fail to apply for approval which is compulsorily required by the Act. In addition with the rapid development of housing area, the problems in relation to the awareness and approval requirement for house renovation work must be streamlined. The objectives are to study the public awareness on the approval plan for extension house this is, to study whether the public know with the requirement prior to the issuance of Certificate of Fitness and the importance of it for the extension work for insurance purpose. A case study and a research analysis through questionnaires were conducted as the methodology to gather information on actual problems faced. Prior to the establishment of the building regulation, Local Authority should play a major role in assisting public in fulfilling the requirement of approval plan.
