The characteristic, in both physical and chemical, also varies within the same geographic location* in different seasons. Knowledge about the characteristic of refuse is essential in order to decide the type of disposal method to adopt and the desired frequency of the collection system. Furthermore, it also affects the methods and capacity of storage, the correct type of collection vehicle, the optimum size of crew and the frequency of the collection system. Solid waste management involves the activities related to waste generation, storage, collection, transfer and transportation, processing and disposal or reuse and recycling.
