By using empirical approach and trial and error methods, it is difficult to understand the nature of the combined diffusion effect on the kinetic aspect of the hybrid layer development optimally. Besides, it is very time consuming and requires high cost. The present study aims to simulate the concentration-depth profiles as a result of the nitrogen and carbon simultaneous diffusion during low temperature hybrid thermochemical treatment in austenitic stainless steel by numerical modelling. The central explicit finite difference method is applied to calculate the diffusion equation in determining the concentration along the diffusion depth.
