Description
Summary:This research is conducted to study the phytochemistry of the Pandanus species that are mostly available and famous in Malaysia. Pandanus species have a lot of benefits either as a medicinal uses or non-medicinal uses. This study used more specific species which is a Pandanus pygmaeus. This plant is usually found along the roadside as a landscape. For this study, the plant was collected from UiTM Shah Alam campus. Then, several extraction methods such solvent partition and liquid-liquid partition had been done in order to isolate the compound of interest. After that, the samples were fractionated either by TLC of preparative TLC in order to remove any impurities from the fractions. Then, the compounds were isolated and analyzed by spectroscopic technique such as Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR). The major constituent of this plant was found to be possible alkaloid.
