The researcher believes that the Sumayau Dance is an important medium of catharsis, self-realization and also as a platform of non-verbal communication between the Sumayau dancers and the community. Semi-structured interviews were conducted on twenty five exponents of Sumayau dance from the Lotud society. The acquired qualitative data has been analyzed and categorized into six categories: dance movements, music and music instruments, dance costumes, rituals, performance setting and the structure of the performance. Semantic analysis is applied to a recorded video of the Sumayau performance and is discussed in a separate chapter. Discussions are guided by Jungian theory which is the foundation of the theoretical framework of this thesis. The examination of the interweaving elements in the Sumayau performance revealed that therapeutic process not only affected the dancers but also the community involved.
