Despite the rapid growth of technology, it is undeniable that newspapers still receive overwhelming support from the household media. The aim of this research is to study the layout of English newspapers in Sabah during the Jesselton era (1899 to 1967). There are four types of theories enclosed with the Gestalt Principle which are Similarity, Proximity, Continuance and Closure. These theories help to scrutinize every part of the Layout Design components, which are the Balancing Act, Visual Rhythm, Grid, Path Layout and Photography.
