Description
Summary:Many studies have been done on Senna a/ala on its medicinal value such as treating skin diseases. Nevertheless, limited research was done on the endophytes that live in the Senna alata plants. The aim of this study is to isolate the endophyte actinomycetes from Senna a/ala plants; conduct extraction process on the actinomycetes isolates and determine the potential of the isolates towards different types of pathogenic microorganisms. This study had used a combination of three methods in order to justify or classify the endophyte strains that had been isolated from Senna a/ala. These three methods are based on culture morphology, molecular classification approach and comparison to International Streptomyces Project (ISP) which acts as guideline to determine whether the articular endophyte actinomycetes are the unique strains or otherwise. In this study, a total of three putative indigenous endophyte actinomycetes have been isolated and they were subjected to fermentation and extraction process for antimicrobial ctivities test. In the antimicrobial test, five standard strains had been used. These five standard strains were the common pathogenic microorganisms that cause diseases. The results from antimicrobial test showed that all endophyte isolates demonstrate positive inhibition to the standard strains.
