الوصف
الملخص:This project aimed to harness mechanical energy of exhaust cooling water running continuously in a discharge weir of a base load power plant. However, three major problems were encountered: the site is an operating artificial site, the exhaust cooling water is heated sea water, and the custom system is required to be flexible. These problems necessitate a custom design. This custom system was developed from scratch; it was designed, fabricated and installed very differently compared to other micro hydros. As a novel system, it was evaluated in two aspects – through economic and performance study. Due to safety reasons, the system underwent proof run for a three-month period, without involving extensive on-site experimentation. Therefore, physical and mathematical modeling, as well as parametric study, were carried out to complement the evaluation. Results obtained showed that the hybrid turbine was indeed a reaction turbine, the custom system was capable of reaching 45% efficiency, and its payback period was estimated as 4.23 years. All in all, the system is feasible for the sensitive site application.
