Description
Summary:As the volume of air traffic continues to grow, movements of aircraft on airport pavement will inevitably increase. To cope with such growth it is necessary to make optimal use of all available pavement’s resources. By carrying out proper maintenance at proper times, airport operator will be able to cut the overall demand for maintenance, which then will contribute to economic benefits. As the systematic method has not been adopted and all decisions about pavement maintenance and rehabilitation (M&R) at Kuching International Airport based on immediate need or experience rather than long-term planning or structured maintenance system, this study proposes an alternative method in predicting the pavement condition based on maintenance history and read information. As a case study, an area of 214,500 m2 was assessed, which was divided into 562 sample units. Based on the required sample size, about 110 sample units were inspected, which involved visual surface condition, structural and functional adequacy. Data analysis was carried out using MicroPAVER, ProFAA, Evaluation of Layer Moduli and Overlay Design (ELMOD) and A.I.R.P.O.R.T.S softwares, to determine a maintenance plan and allocating resources for pavement maintenance and rehabilitation respectively.
