Description
Summary:Sarawak is a state rich with various economic resources and it is also well known for its local delicacy, the Terubok fish or scientifically known as Tropical shad Tenualosa. However, due to the overexploitation of Terubok, the total catch landing has been declining. Therefore, this study focuses on the potential of establishing sustainable practice of Terubok fisheries. This is done to sustain and conserve the Terubok population and at the same time helps in enhancing the livelihood of Sarawak Terubok fishers. The value of WTA was obtained through Contingent Valuation Method (CVM). The data for this study was collected in 3 different district of core Terubok area. The finding of this study reveals that the minimum amount of WTA that should Terubok fishers received is RM301.08 and the factors affecting their WTA is mostly related to their sociodemographic such as size of household, fishers experience in fishing and their race. This study suggests to have a Close Season Program for Terubok, apply incentive based approach, have a strict regulation imposed to the fishers and also to organize an awareness program.
