Description
Summary:An ecological survey ofEndospermum diadenum (:M:iq.) Airy Shaw (terbulan) was conducted at Sabal Forest Reserve, Sri Arnan. From 12 plots of 20 m x 20 m showed that a total of trees with diameter at breast height (dbh ) 2: 5 cm was 226 from ?9 family a!ld 62 species. The overall of the total aboveground biomass was 135670.36 kg/ha, basal area 170288.16 cm2/ha and leaf area index 11397.5 cm2lha. The family of Anacardiaceae showed the highest value of total aboveground biomass (30920.33 kg/ha) while Camnosperma auriculata Hook f. had the highest totak estimated aboveground biomass (30920.33 kglha). Camnosperma auriculata was the most dominant species with the highest important value (25.17) while Endospermum diadenum (:M:iq.) Airy Shaw was codominant species with important value at 18.84. Distribution of E. diadenum trees in the 20 plots of 100 m x 100 m did not show uniform distribution and this species also had a diverse stages with a total of 217 trees. Linear regression analyses showed significant relationship (r2 2: 0.80, P :s 0.000) between dbh and height with stocking, basal area volume and stand density. Study on distribution of aboveground biomass of E. diadenum and its relationship with diameter and breast height (dbh) and age in Sabal Forest Reserve showed the foliage branch, stem and total aboveground was highly correlated both with dbh (r2 2: 0.90) and with age (r2 2: 0.86). Shading had showed significant influenced on the seedling growth, biomass production and allocation. The growth best performance was attained at 50% shade level while poor growth under 75% shade level. Study also showed that the rooting percentage and the number of roots produced pel cutting were significantly different among different shade le"vuls. The r00t production and root growth performance per cutting was highest at 50% shade level and lowest at 0% shade leveL The overall of the study showed E. diadenum was suitable as the one of species for plantation in Sarawak.
