Description
Summary:This thesis describes the coordination chemistry of organotin(IV) with hydrazone and thiosemicarbarzone ligands. A comprehensive survey of the literature, focusing on works most pertinent and complementary to the synthesis, chemical reactivities, structures of organotin(IV) complexes and biological studies containing ONN, ONO, and ONS-donor is described extensively. New chelating hydrazone and thiosemicarbazone ligands, namely carbohydrazone bis(salicylaldehyde) [H4CBS] (1), pyruvic acid isonicotinoyl hydrazone [~PAI] (8), 2-hydroxyacetophenone thiosemicarbazone [H4APT] (14) and 3-hydroxy-2 butanone thiosemicarbazone [H4BT] (15) have been synthesized and characterized. In general, an interesting series of new organotin(IV) complexes has been synthesized by the direct reaction of RnSnC14-n (R = Me, Bu, Ph; n = 1, 2) with these hydrazone/thiosemicarbazone ligands (1, 8, 14 & 15) in the presence of base and refluxing in 1:2:1 mole ratio (metal:base:ligand) under Schlenk Vacuum line technique.
