Description
Summary:The Ibanic languages in Sarawak often obtains attention from Ibanic languages researchers. The Ibanic has many variations. The Iban language is one of the variants of the languages in Sarawak. Through study highlights survey, the Iban languages undergets the attention of researchers. Therefore, the study was carried out to study the level of language prevalence of the Iban Remun’s languages in Serian with one of the variation in the Sri Aman division which is Undop’s. A review of the relationship between the Iban languages in Sarawak was not carried out. This study is a qualitative study. In order to determine the relationship between these two languages, comparative methods and lexicostatistic are suitable for use. Lexicostatistics is a method of comparative linguistics that involves comparing the percentage of lexical cognates between languages to determine their relationship. This study is not focused on phonology, phonetic or sociolinguistic, but focused on lexicostatistic areas only. A list of 100 vocabulary and domains are used to acquire the vocabulary data between the Remun’s and Undop’s languages. The result showed that the percentage of words between these two languages showed a large number at 93.7%. The level of frequency between the two languages is language status. Although the amount is very large but there is a difference in the vocabulary in two languages. The factor that creates this difference is the geographical position of the Remun’s community away from other Ibanics. This study was a slight extent of completing the group's other language studies.
