Description
Summary:This study explored the stress coping strategies used by principals of secondary schools in Sarawak. The aim of this study is specifically to identify the level and sources of school administrative work stress and the coping strategies used by principals of secondary school in Sarawak to alleviate and reduce the effects of work stress. One hundred and nineteen of the one hundred and forty two (83.8 percent) secondary school principals in Sarawak were selected as respondents of this study. The data regarding the level and sources of work stress were collected by using Stress Rating Scale, adapted from Administrative Stress Index developed by Gmelch and Swent (1977) and modified by Siti Fatimah (1993). The Coping Preference Scale developed by Allison (1977) was used to measure the coping strategies. Descriptive methods, such as mean, frequency and percentage, Multiple Linear Regression, Independent t-test, Friedman test and Least Significant Difference Method (LSD) were used to achieve the objectives of the study.
