Summary:Corporate entrepreneurship plays an integral part in a firm’s competitive abilities and its future success survivability in any given business landscape. This study looks into the Malaysian banking industry’s aspiration, enthusiasm and vision in cultivating and embracing corporate entrepreneurship. As the Malaysian banking sector contributes significantly to the nation’s economy and employs a large percentage of its labour force, its competitive edge and future well-being are of paramount importance for the country’s overall economic and social health. The study’s objectives are to explore and identify the driving factors of the Malaysian banking sector that enhance, motivate and incorporate corporate entrepreneurship in its operations. Locally owned and foreign-controlled major banks were approached, and the managers were interviewed to look into the banks’ position on the importance and their understanding of corporate entrepreneurship. Using a qualitative approach, the study adopted structured interviews to elicit qualitative data and content analysis to identify the salient factors. The results of the study contribute valuable insights, especially into the Malaysian banking sector in the contemporary business setting. It is found that the Malaysian banking sector display a positive understanding and a need to integrate corporate entrepreneurship in their business through innovation initiatives, corporate venturing and strategic renewal. The findings also highlight that the notion of corporate entrepreneurship should not be overlooked or seen in a reactive manner; instead, a proactive approach should be encouraged. Corporate entrepreneurship should be an indispensable platform for the Malaysian banking sector to prosper and stride confidently into the future.
