Summary: | Recidivism may be reduced by prison climate elements alone or in combination with other treatments such as counseling, training, and education, as well as staff and prisoner mentorship of proper attitudes. In terms of the effect and implications of such initiatives, inmates' imprisonment may function as both a natural barrier and an interacting mechanism. Among drug-abusing prisoners in a Malaysian prison, the primary goal of this research was to identify the relationship between prison climate and life satisfaction among drug-abused inmates at Kajang Prison. The relationship between the prison social climate and life satisfaction has received little attention. A cross-sectional research approach was used in this study, which included a total of 158 drug-abusing convicts. Simple random sampling was used to choose the respondents for this study. Prison social climate and life satisfaction were the two critical components in the research, and they were measured using self-administered questionnaires that included questions to evaluate each of these constructs. The findings of the study showed that different aspects of the prison social climate had a different effects on drug-abuse inmate’s life satisfaction. The study also said that things like creative activities, education, work skills, and physical exercise need to be more and more different for drug-abuse inmates because they can make their lives better. Prison climate is crucial for drug-abuse inmates' life satisfaction while incarcerated and for achieving a better life in the community when they are released and cut down on re-offending. As a result, practical contributions are proposed to the Malaysian Prison Department for the development of appropriate policies and strategies to improve the prison climate in order to achieve drug-abuse inmates' life satisfaction, as Malaysian life satisfaction has been identified as a government priority in the 12th Malaysia Plan (2021-2025). |
