Summary: | Since the 17th century, Malay medicine has become one of the aspects of knowledge discussion where the Malay community can identify plants that can be used as medicine or that contain poisons. This helped the Malay community in dealing with infectious diseases and existing diseases through herbal-based treatment so that medical practitioners at that time took the initiative to record the ingredients and treatment methods used. The application of selected plants to the Zingiberaceae family in Malay Medical Book MS 33 is applied to analyze the potential of herbs through selected texts. A total of 11 types of herbs from the Zingiberaceae family were studied and analyzed for potential as medicines which consisted of Ginger (Zingiber Officinale Roscoe), Bitter Ginger (Zingiber Zerumbet (L.) Roscoe), Aromatic Ginger (Kaempferia Galanga), Turmeric (Curcuma Longa), Galangal (Alpinia Galanga), Fingerroot (Boesenbergia Pandurata), White Turmeric (Curcuma Zedoaria), Java Ginger (Curcuma Xanthorrhiza), Curcuma Aeruginosa, Common Ginger (Zingiber Officinale Var Rubrum ) and Cassumunar Ginger (Zingiber Cassumunar). Zingiberaceae is reported to be one of the medicinal ingredients in treating diseases such as vomiting, flatulence, intestinal diseases, fever, and so on. This study seeks to achieve some important objectives, namely 1) to identify the morphology, biology, and benefits of the Zingiberaceae family according to scientific outlook, 2) to study the structure of Malay medical manuscript MS 33 from the aspect of history, manuscript analysis and descriptive review of scientific studies, 3) to analyze the application of herbs from Zingiberaceae family in treating diseases as recorded in the manuscript MS 33. This study used library research methods, text transliteration methods, and philological research methods in collecting data. Next, data analysis was performed using content analysis methods, deductive methods, and inductive methods to see the productivity and benefits of the Zingiberaceae family in treating diseases. The results of the study conducted in this study, researchers found that the Zingiberaceae family as medicine can have a therapeutic effect that is to provide relief and healing for diseases. This study is also important in upholding the legacy of knowledge that exists in the Malay medical manuscript that can be taken to the stage of clinical research to commercialization, as well as explore and develop the potential of the Zingiberaceae family as one of the drugs a viable, easy, fast developed and effective in treating diseases. |
