Summary: | The present study aims to identify the role of higher education funding and its impact on Nigerian universities in Kano State. The problem of the study lies in the low funding of higher education in Nigerian universities, which negatively affects the sustainability of higher education. The importance of the study is highlighted by highlighting the importance of financing higher education in Nigerian universities and the sources of obtaining this funding as one of the most important factors through which students can complete their studies. The study followed the qualitative approach in order to obtain more accurate information about the traditional sources of financing for higher education and its impact on the sustainability of education. The study population reached the number of three Nigerian universities, namely, a state, a federal university, and a private university, to identify the impact of higher education funding on Nigerian universities in Kano State. The sample of the study was about three out of five who are responsible for financing higher education in Nigerian universities. Also, the study followed unstructured or open interviews in order to obtain more information about the financing of higher education and whether it is suitable for the idea of a monetary endowment or not. The results showed that there are many practices of financing higher education in Nigerian universities in Kano State, including direct support for outstanding students or through private institutions that provide support to Nigerian students in Kano State. Including what can be obtained through the endowment fund and donations that can be made through community initiatives. The results of the study also showed that the idea of monetary endowment faces great challenges in its application, as the idea is subject to acceptance and rejection according to the nature of the university and the nature of the subjects being taught. The results of the study also showed that it is possible to benefit from the Malaysian experience by trying to implement the cash support by communicating with local banks, provided that the support obtained by the student is a debt that can be repaid after graduation and obtaining a job. The study recommended the need to expand the study of the impact of financing higher education in Nigerian universities by expanding the scope of the study to include all Nigerian states. |
