Summary:This study was conducted to evaluate the strategies in understanding Arabic texts among second-year students of Arabic Language and Communication, Faculty of Major Language Studies at Islamic Science University of Malaysia (USIM). Through the experience of learning Arabic at the primary or secondary school, students are expected to improve their reading skills, practice and study of Arabic subjects at higher levels. However, in university level they could not understand the Arabic texts well. The purpose of this study is to find out the level knowledge of strategies in understanding Arabic texts. The researcher randomly distributing test questions to 30 respondents among second-year student of Arabic Language and Communication, Faculty of Major Language Studies at the Islamic Science University of Malaysia, among 20-23 year’s old which those have the experience in learning Arabic language ranged 6-10 years. The method used in this study is quantitative method which is using questionnaire instrument. The researcher then analyses using the Statistical Analysis Program (SPSS) in terms of descriptive analysis of its frequency, percentage and average value. This study found out that majority of respondents agree that there are strategies in understanding Arabic texts and the strategies also really help them to understand Arabic text in a proper way. Researcher hopes that the students will get benefit from the strategies in order to improve their reading skills.
