| Summary: | Tafsir Nur al- Ehsan, was well-known among the earliest book of Tafsir in Malaysia’s history, penned by Syeikh Muhammad Said bin Umar. This book was the main references among the Muslims in understanding the meanings of verses in The Holy Quran. Due to the significance of the book, this study seeks to analyse the methods used by Syeikh Muhammad Said bin Umar in translating The Laws Related verses which is related to ibadah, munakahah, and jinayah in The Holy Quran, namely Tafsir bi al- Ma’thur or Tafsir bi al- Ra’yi. This study investigates on the influence of Mazhab Syafie in translating the Quranic verses as well as the methods used by Syeikh Muhammad Said bin Umar in writing and explaining the contents. In completing this study, the researcher decided to apply three methodological approaches where the first is The Descriptive Method which helps in highlighting the history of the author himself and the early eras of this book in Malaysia. Secondly, The Inductive Method used in understanding The Laws Related Verses which is related to ibadah, munakahah, and jinayah in The Holy Quran topics by topics to suit into the chapters. Thirdly, Analytical Method is used by the researcher in analysing the outcome, either the author of the book used Tafsir bi al- Ma’thur or Tafsir bi al- Ra’yi in his work. As a result, Syeikh Muhammad Said bin Umar tend to the opinions of Syafie without showing any fanaticism. In fact, he also brings the opinions of other schools when discussing matters of jurisprudence. Syeikh Muhammad Said bin Umar used Tafsir bi al- Ma’thur as his main method, meaning he translates The Verse with other Verses in The Holy Quran itself, translates The Verse with The Hadith Muhammad PBUH, and also translates The Verse with the Companions of Muhammad PBUH together with the Tabi’in’s. Apart from that, Tafsir bi al- Ra’yi was used in translating The Laws Related Verses by applying his own knowledge and understanding while referring to other well-known Mufassirin. |
