Summary: | Numerous studies have proposed that strategic management in human resource
practice has played a tremendous role on employee performance. Empirically, the
high-performance work system in strategic human resource management has
demonstrated an important role on teacher performance. Consequently, this study
examined the role of high-performance work system elements such as staffing,
training, involvement, compensation, performance appraisal and caring on teacher
performance in Lagos state secondary school teachers in Nigeria. The research also
investigated the effects of mediator variables such as concern for teachers, concern
for students, helping behavior, service performance and teacher religious spirituality
on teacher performance. A total of 921 teaching staff were randomly selected among
the Lagos state ministry of education teachers. Similarly, 80 items were used to test
the high-performance work system and the mediator variables were assessed using
structural equation modeling. The results of the analysis affirmed that highperformance work system is significantly related to teacher performance.
Furthermore, the result also presented that the aforementioned mediator variables
play a significant role in high-performance work system and teacher performance.
This study also found that concern for teachers and concern for students affect
teachers helping behavior and service performance respectively, which consequently
improve teacher performance. It was also found that teacher religious spirituality
indirectly affect teacher performance through its impact on service performance.
Thus, the positive outcome yielded by high-performance work system on employees
in the organization psychology industry has now been combined with religious
spirituality for more impressive and vigorous outcome on teacher performance in the
education ministry |
