Description
Summary:The term “al-Qareenah” Coherence and its semantics is a new terminology used by the modern linguists to mean term evidence, relation or verse. It is the verbal and semantic relations that combine the parts of sentence. Coherence in the Arabic language is examined in all sciences of the language such as phonetics, morphology, grammar, rhetoric etc. thus, it is regarded as a wide field in linguistic studies being contained in many linguistic rules that help to know its norms. Based on this, the grammatical coherence is divided into two namely: verbal and semantic coherence. The significant of coherence has been shown in its contextual function and prominent role in explaining the meaning of Arabic structure in the phonetic, verbal and semantic coherence which includes: stress, rank combination, joining, instrumental, ascription, and subordinate coherence respectively. Moreover, coherence leads to understand how to analyze the sentence and its performance for the purpose of speaker and listener. In the contemporary study of grammatical coherence and its semantics in the Arabic, there is little study in investigating the contextual relationships among parts of the sentence which are an integral part to each other. Therefore, the research aims at examining the phenomenon of grammatical coherence and its semantics in the Arabic structure with specific focus of attention on maqsurah ibn Durayda’s book: An analytical study. The researcher cites various examples with the aim of presenting best approach to study grammatical coherence from the Holy Quran alongside with the examination of the grammarians and commentators books of medieval and modern authors such as: al-Khalil, Sibawayhi, al-Farrah, al-Mubarrid, al-Anbary, al-Jurjany, Ibn Jinny, Zamakhashary, as-Sakaaky, Ibn Ya’ish, Ibn Malik, Ibn Hushaam, as-Sayyouty and many others. It is hopeful that this study would be useful to researchers and learners in the field of modern Arabic studies.
