Public corporations in Zanzibar encounter many problems dealing with job performance that prevent the attainment of quality service delivery, a motivated workforce, contribution in the country’s economy and the general development of the public corporations’ system, whereby government leaders, academicians and other stakehouders show their disappointments on the level of job performance of the employees which has resulted to poor service delivery to the people. This is a good reason to believe that there is a lack of morale and commitment among employees as a result they fail to exert their efforts to achieve the desired outcome. Findings of the previous studies regarding the association between facets of job performance were inconsistent, although Islamic work ethic seems to have some consistencies, especially in Arab- dominated countries. Thus, this study suggested to incorporate Islamic work ethic in non-Arab countries especially Zanzibar because more than 95% of her population are Muslims. Using survey data 268 employees of the public corporations in Zanzibar through stratified simple random sampling, the findings of the standard multiple regression indicated that Islamic work ethic and facets of jon satisfaction accounted for (R2) 31.8 variance of the job performance of the employees in the public corporations in Zanzibar. Primarily, Islamic work ethic and three facets of job satisfaction namely pay, co-workers and supervision positively predicted job performance or the employees, while promotion on the other side showed a negative prediction towards job performance, however work itself did not show any significant impact on job performance. Furthermore, a hierarchical multiple regression was applied to test the mediating effect of organizational climate on the relationship between Islamic work ethic and facets of job satisfaction on job performance. The findings revealed that organisational climate failed to mediate the association of Islamic work ethic, supervision and work itself with job performance; however it partially mediated the relationship between promotion and co-workers with job performance as well as it fully mediated the relationship between pay and job performance. Finally, this research could help the management of public corporations to recognise the need of employees so that to anhance their job performance in their organisations. This study also proposes the improvement for the current labour policy in Zanzibar through inculcation of Islamic work ethic values.
