Summary: | Indeed, mosques are meant to be grand, respected, purified and revered. It is the house
of Allah the Almighty and it is He who decides that mosques are meant for the
believers of Islam and forbids the non-believers from flourishing it. However, the
current living conditions of the Muslims in Singapore that are staying together among
the non-Muslims, are such that mosques are placed in the middle whereas the
community live around the mosque. In fact, all mosques in Singapore arc dictated by
the legal system that are enacted by the secular government. In such an environment,
Singapore mosques are required to interact and integrate with the community within
their area. Such involvement might also include request for funding for expansion
pro* while some mosques have to accede to requests made by the non-Muslims in
the community. The specialty of this research lies in the subject of discussion. As far
as the writer is aware, this is the first research case w h e y the issue of conducting
activities in the mosque for the non-Muslims is only subjected through the opinions of
Fiqh. This research aims to explain the meaning of the word Imaruh that is mentioned
in the Holy Quran, Chapter of At-Taubah. At the same time, the research will explore
on how far is it permissible to receive assistance from non-Muslims for mosque
building and other projects, be it through monetary tams or administrative assistance.
The research will also discuss about allowing non -Muslims to congregate at the
Mosque. The aurthor will also discuss about Special programmes designed for the
non-Muslims that are carried out in the mosques from the view of Islamic law. It is
hope that the research can clarifies certain misconceptions among the Singapore
Muslim community that arose from conducting these programmes in Singapore
mosques. Descriptive and inductive approach is being used in this research to gather
the scholar's opinions, as well as their arguments. Analytical and critical approach is
used to discuss their views and their arguments to find the opinion that is the closest
match with the truth and suffice the needs of the Muslim community in Singapore and
their interests. Other than gathering the data and information from the library, the
author had conducted interviews with people whose responsibility includes ensuring
the mosque's administrative processes are carried out dutifully. The research has
produced several results. One of such that is worth mentioning here is that Singapore
mosques that arc built on lease land are valid to be considered as mosque, thus
allowing all Islamic legal conditions on it to be established. For the case of receiving
assistance from non-Muslims for the construction of mosques or other projects,
whether through gifts in monetary terms, beneficiaries, blueprints of buildings or their
visits to the mosque are subjected to a few conditions. Finally, the research Calks about
the major role that are meant to perform is to foster and maintain well-being
of the multi-racial community in the country |
