Summary: | The aim of the study to assess the contribution of job alienation and its impact on the direct relationship between the five major characteristics of personality and competence of employees in the office of the State Ministry and Governor of Dhofar in the Sultanate of Oman. To achieve the goal, two theories were relied on, namely, trait theory and alienation theory with the aim of improving performance and the efficiency of the employees’ behaviour within the work environment. The traits models represented on five independent dimensions included a set of factors: (conscientiousness, extraversion, acceptability, openness, neuroticism) and functional alienation as moderating and mediating variables included three dimensions: (feeling powerless, social isolation, pessimism, and dissatisfaction. It is also included the efficiency of employees as a dependant variable on three dimensions (organizational efficiency, self-efficacy, technical competence). In order to achieve these goals, the researcher used the descriptive and analytical methods depending on the discovery and CFA-Confirmatory Factor Analysis in order to ensure the constructive validity of the study model and thereafter using the structural equation modelling (SEM-AMOS) method to verify the study hypotheses and its main objectives. Due to the multiplicity of the departments investigated in the study environment, the sample size was determined using the stratified sample method. The number of valid questionnaires for analysis was (973). The study concluded several results and among the most important findings of the study are :that all dimensions of the five major personality traits had a positive impact on the efficiency of employees, except for the neurotic dimension. The study also found existence of the effect of job alienation through the values of the differences in the statistical estimate in favour of the first group (non-functional officers). The study recommended employees' directive guidelines in order to steer them away from negative matters throughout their employment and acknowledgment of their views of innovation and improvement of working conditions, and moving away from isolationism. It also recommended the respective authorities to develop a clear policy for leaders and officials to improve the level of work. The study suggested that the future researchers should further research other traits, study and evaluate their consequences on an individual's behaviours. |
