Summary: | This study aimed at evaluating postgraduate programs at University of Nizwa, in view of standards of excellence and academic accreditation, and at identifying reality of applying these standards, from point of view of faculty and university postgraduate students, as well as making proposals for standards that need to be developed; to establish these programs to meet standards of excellence and accreditation requirements. The study issue aroused in postgraduate programs at University of Nizwa which have not undergone programmatic evaluations aimed at improving the quality and development of their programs. In order to achieve the study's objectives, the researcher used evaluation descriptive approach. The researcher prepared two questionnaires: The first was directed to the faculty members , included five criteria and (35) indicators, and the second was directed at postgraduate students, which included three criteria and (34) indicators, after verifying veracity and consistency, both were applied to members of study sample, which consisted of (56) members of faculty of University's postgraduate programs, and (114) of postgraduate students, to answer study questions, extracted computational averages and standard deviations, as well as using( T.Test) and (Tow Way Anova). One of most notable findings of the study was degree of applying excellence standards and academic accreditation in postgraduate programs of University of Nizwa from faculty's point of view was within the high degree of application except for standard of scientific research and community partnership, it was moderate, also the study found there were no statistically significant differences at the level of indication (0.05 ≤ α) to the degree of application of excellence standards and academic accreditation from the faculty's point of view according to college variables and experience in all standards except the standard of scientific research and community partnership, it was for the benefit of the highest experienced (8 years and more).The results showed the degree of applying the quality standards and academic accreditation in postgraduate programs of University of Nizwa from student's point of view was moderate, and the results revealed no statistically significant differences at the level of indication (0.05 ≤ α) for the realities of applying these criteria from the students' perspective according to gender variables in standards of education, learning, student affairs and support services, while there were statistically significant differences in the criterion of material possibilities and sources of learning for benefit of males. In view of study results, a series of suggestions and recommendations were made, among others: The University should undertake periodic review and continuous development of excellence standards and academic accreditation in postgraduate programs so it may well obtain academic accreditation and in addition to conducting such study on postgraduate programs at public and private universities/colleges in Sultanate of Oman. |
