Summary: | The study aimed to reveal the impact of using modern teaching strategies in learning
Mathematics in developing mathematical communication skills (mathematical writing
skills - mathematical reading skills - mathematical representation skills) for the subject
of applied mathematics for grade eleven students in the Sultanate of Oman. To achieve
the objective of the study, quasi-experimental research design was followed on a sample
of (56) students from grade eleven. (27) students from this sample were in the
experimental group, and (29) students were in the control group. The study instruments:
an observation card and a test of mathematical communication skills, which consisted
of (30) questions distributed on mathematical writing skills (13), mathematical reading
skills (10) questions, and mathematical representation skills (7) questions, were
developed. The pre-test and post-test were applied to the experimental and control
groups. 2- The observation card, through which the extent of the application of modern
mathematics teaching strategies was measured. The findings of the study showed that
there were statistically significant differences between the pre-test and post-test
applications of the mathematical communication skills (writing - reading -
mathematical representation) in favour of the post-test application. The findings also
showed that there were significant differences between the results of the control group
and the experimental group in the post-test of mathematical communication skills in
favour of the experimental group. There were no significant differences between the
experimental group in the two applications of pre-test and post-test, due to the variable
of gender. Further findings of the study showed a strong and positive correlation
between the results test of Mathematical communication skills and the extent of
applying modern mathematical strategies in the lesson. In light of these findings, the
study recommended that teachers use more than one strategy to develop Mathematical
communication skills, including those that enhance the student’s role in the educational
process. The study also recommended to conduct similar studies to measure the
effectiveness of modern Mathematical strategies in developing the skill of
Mathematical speaking and the skill of Mathematical listening. |
