Summary: | This research focuses on trends in teacher preparation based on
competencies, with total quality as the most important requirement. It
also looks into the challenges of globalisation and its demands on
teachers' competencies. The study aims to evaluate whether there is a
statistical relationship between occupational competencies which should
be provided by teachers from intermediate education in the light of total
quality and globalisation requirements. A sample of the study reached
٨٫٣١٤respondents comprising teachers (٥٥٠), managers, educational
supervisors, experts and administrators in intermediate education. Data
collection was made through questionnaire prepared by the researcher and
includes (١١٧) questions that were designed to achieve the objectives of
the study. The researcher used the analytical descriptive methodology that
is identical with the study objectives and the tool used in data collection.
Majority of the respondents are of the opinion that the level of
competencies are associated with planning, implementation, classroom
control, dealing with students and improvement and dealing with the
community, as well as using modern and good teaching tools. The study
emphasises that there is a moral relationship in competencies associated
with planning, implementation, improvement and dealing with the
community. However, it finds that there is no moral relationship in
competencies associated with planning and classroom control. Hence, the
study recommends that teacher preparation standards be developed, in
sync with globalisation requirements and total quality to ensure that
teachers are internationally qualified. The study also stresses the need to
instill awareness among teachers, managers and students on the
importance of quality education for the country. It also proposes a total
review of the philosophy and vision for education, which while taking the
Islamic approach, should also take cognisance of modern life, total
quality standards and globalisation demands. |
