Description
Summary:This study discussed about the e-learning landscape among Jordanian public and private universities. The research problem highlighted the lack of funding for e-learning requirements, frequent Internet interruptions as well as the poor computer skills among students. The study aimed to diagnose the level of readiness of Jordanian universities for e-learning, to determine the level of inclination and to propose some solutions to the challenges faced during the use of it. The descriptive and analytical approach was adopted, as the quantitative method was used as the main method in collecting data, while the qualitative method was implemented to enhance the results. Three types of questionnaires were disseminated to faculty members, students, and administrators. The size of the research sample is: (3330) teaching staff, (99862) students, and (2177) administrators in public and private universities. The sample was randomly chosen, consists of (1058) faculty members, (2029) students, and (877) administrators. An interview was also conducted with (36) faculty members, students, and administrators. The faculty members’ questionnaire consists of (73) items, (54) items for the student questionnaire and (60) items for administrators’ questionnaire. The descriptive statistics have been used to extract the frequencies and standard deviations. The results showed that the level of readiness among Jordanian public and private universities for e-learning was moderate. The use of e-learning by faculty members was high and students’ use of e-learning was very high, while the use of it among administrators was low. The level of the faculty members’ tendency for e-learning was moderate, and the students’ tendency was very high, but was low for the administrators. The study reached the most important proposed solutions to face the challenges of applying e-learning in universities. The results showed that there were statistically significant differences at the level of significance (α> 0.05) in the experience variable in favor of those research samples with less experience. The result also indicated that there are differences in the use of e-learning by faculty members depending on the type of university and experience variable. The existence of differences in the tendencies of the faculty members were according to their own variables, as there was a difference according to the variables of sex and the academic level of students. The researcher recommended the necessity to stimulate the tendencies and attitudes of faculty members and administrators towards e-learning, interest in the Internet and the maintenance of e-learning devices.
