The Indo-Malay Archipelago is the homeland of the Austronesian speaking population known as the Malays. Now, the definition of Malay is confine to the population residing in Malaysia. Due to the different origin of the Malays in Malaysia from various parts of the Malay Indo-Archipelogo, there are many Malay sub-ethnic groups living in Malaysia. The main objective of this research is to study the distribution of the HLA alleles and haplotypes in the Malay sub-ethnic groups.
