Hubungan antara kebimbangan matematik dengan motivasi dan pencapaian matematik murid di sekolah rendah
The TIMSS 2019 national report shows that the average Mathematics score for Malaysian students in TIMSS is declining with achievements of 519 (year 1999), 508 (year 2003), 474 (year 2007), 440 (year 2011), 465 (year 2015) and 461 (year 2019). Summary: | The TIMSS 2019 national report shows that the average Mathematics score for Malaysian students in TIMSS is declining with achievements of 519 (year 1999), 508 (year 2003), 474 (year 2007), 440 (year 2011), 465 (year 2015) and 461 (year 2019). This phenomenon occurs as a result of increasingly serious Mathematics anxiety among students. According to Lamon, the declining interest of students in Mathematics has affected the mentality of students in the process of learning Mathematics and triggered feelings of phobia among students towards Mathematics. To date, few studies have examined the effects of Mathematics anxiety on Mathematics motivation and achievement simultaneously and most of the scope of past studies conducted is so broad that the purpose of their study focused on the effects of test anxiety on Mathematics. Thus, this study aims to identify the level of Mathematics anxiety and the level of Mathematics motivation of students as well as the relationship between Mathematics anxiety with Mathematics motivation and achievement among primary school students. This study was conducted using a quantitative study design with correlation approach as a data analysis technique. The study involved 137 primary school students in the district of Kluang, Johor who were selected through cluster random sampling method. Online questionnaires were distributed to obtain information from the sample. Descriptive statistics and inferential statistics (Pearson correlation) were used to analyze the data collected using SPSS software. The results showed that the students 'Mathematics anxiety was at a low level while the students' Mathematics motivation was at a moderate level. The results showed that there was a very weak and insignificant negative relationship between Mathematics anxiety and Mathematics motivation. The results of the study also found that there was a weak but significant negative relationship between Mathematics anxiety and student achievement. This study provides implications for various parties, especially students, parents, teachers, researchers, Ministry of Education Malaysia and any related parties so as not to ignore the impact of Mathematics concerns on students' Mathematics learning to prevent students from avoiding Mathematics operating situations and further disrupt development of logical thinking and problem solving in their daily lives. |
