Summary: | The use of gadget among school children is inevitable in the current era of technology. However, over use of gadget has caused many problems among schooling children which can affect the level of academic achievement, emotional and physical health. This study was conducted in a primary school with the aim to identify is there any relationship between the level of academic achievement, emotional and physical health of students with the level of gadget use. This study involved 170 respondents which were students in Year 5 and Year 6. The study design is quantitative descriptive. Research instruments used was questionnaire. The study is based on the Theory of Technological Determinism developed by Marshall McLuhan, the Theory of Dependence introduced by Ball-Rokeach and DeFleur and the Theory of Addiction. The results of the study found that the level of academic achievement and emotional level are at a medium level whereby the level of physical health was at low level. Spearman Correlation Analysis showed that there was significant relationship between the frequency of gadget use and the students’ academic level, emotional level and students’ physical health level. Values (r = 0. 280) for H01, H02 (r = 0.452) while H03 (r = 0.232). This study proves that there is a significant relationship between the independent variables with the three dependent variables. It is hoped that future studies can future studies the difference between the level of frequency of gadget use with other factors which can affects the academic achievement, emotional and physical health of children. |
