However, only a few formal studies have been carried out to analyse its causes and effects. This study is mainly concerned on the frequency and severity of various factors causing quality deviations in sewerage networks construction projects. All necessary data and information are obtained from archival files or through interviews. Statistical procedures are adopted in analysing the frequency and severity of factors. These analyses are performed separately in two forms of quality deviations according to the terms used in standard forms on contract, namely variations and delays. Tables and charts are presented to show the research findings. Differing site conditions are the major factors contributing to variations, whereas deviations due to authority result in most of the delays. Three project characteristics, i.e. contract award value, the contractor’s financial grade and project duration show certain pattern of relationships with deviations. After interpreting the findings, eight strategies have been proposed to help in better handling the quality deviation problem in construction industry generally, and sewerage construction projects in particular. 2010 Thesis http://eprints.utm.my/id/eprint/13638/ masters Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Faculty of Chemical and Natural Resources Engineering Faculty of Chemical and Natural Resources Engineering
