Summary:The purpose of this project is to carry out a research to find out the readiness of postgraduate students towards mobile learning from the aspects of basic concept, mastery of mobile technology and their favor towards mobile learning, and at the same time find out the key features of mobile learning that important to them. Besides that, a mobile learning application on home networking topic was developed and evaluated on its effectiveness in motivating learning and enhance understanding. The respondents for the research are 32 postgraduate students from educational technology course with active status in semester I, 2008/2009 in Faculty of Education, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. The research instrument for the survey on readiness and the important key features of mobile learning is a set of questionnaire consist of 32 items which divided into 4 sections. The reliability of the research instrument has been determined through a pilot study with the alpha value 0.779 for Section B, 0.822 for Section C, 0.896 for Section D and 0.760 for Section E. The data collected have been descriptively analysed by using Statistical Package for the Social Science (SPSS) version 14 for Windows software and has been presented in the form of mean value. The findings have showed that the respondents have high level of readiness overall from all the aspects being investigated. And the key features of mobile learning that important for the users showed that interactivity is the most important among all. The mobile learning application on network topic was produce using the Macromedia Flash 8 software and could be distribute to the Pocket PC or PDA complement with flash player through the internet, line in transfer or Bluetooth from the computer. The summative evaluation done by carry on interview with 10 target users of the mobile learning application who are given the Pocket PC with the mobile learning application for testing. The content analysis of the interview results are done by theme building method. The findings show that the mobile learning application is effective in motivating learning and enhance understanding of the home networking topic.
