Description
Summary:Rice is one of the most basic and staple food around the world and also is one of the best plants for the study of genetic diversity and genome structure. With the study of the structural and functional features of rice germplasm, the visualization and knowledge about its genetic incomes can be achieved, for the reason that it is the carrier of all the inherited characteristics of rice species. Varieties are generally recognized and identified based on morpho-biochemical traits. Most of the traits are quantitative and therefore it is often difficult to use their criteria. Molecular characterization of these varieties would be the ultimate solution. This study focused on identification of Malaysian rice based on their molecular approach. To screen Malaysian rice, 20 varieties among 38 were selected based on the results of qualification and quantification of genomic DNA extraction using CTAB method. Then PCR was carried out with 10 primers and the results of their electrophoresis were analyzed to identify molecular characteristics. These results identified couple of rice varieties. Varieties Malinja, Bahasia and MR263, were identified by the primer RM404, variety MR253 was identified by the primer RM231 and also variety MR263 was defined by the primer RM262. Therefore, this analysis can be expected to greatly increase the efficiency of variety fingerprinting and identification of Malaysian rice cultivars.
