Summary:The main purpose of the research was to identify the level of workload faced by the primary school teachers in Muar due to the implementation of the School-Based Assessment (PBS). Among the areas studied were: the management, the implementation skills and the obstacles faced by teachers at the schools. A total of 275 teachers from 15 primary schools in Muar had been chosen randomly through cluster sampling. The data was collected through questionnaires and interviews. The interviews were conducted on four teachers, and all the opinions of the interviewers were recorded by researchers using recorder. The data were analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 19.0. The data revealed that the overall workload of teachers in the implementation of the PBS task was quite high. The mean scores of workloads found in the management, implementation skills and obstacles dimensions were 4.34, 4.01 and 3.83 respectively. The study also showed that there were no significant differences in term of management and obstacles faced by teachers in urban and rural schools. However, there were significant differences between the PBS’s implementing skills between these two schools. Finally, constructive ideas to overcome the workloads of teachers in the implementation of PBS were presented in this study
