Description
Summary:Academic motivation is a force that drives an individual to overcome various challenges in the learning process continuosly to achieve goals. This study aims to gather information on factors and ways to increase the academic motivation of rural secondary school students. 20 lower forms students, two teachers teaching lower forms and four school administrators were the respondents of this case study. The results showed that the factors that can increase students’ academic motivation are students' ability to understand the subject, teacher pedagogy, teacher's friendly and kind character, and school infrastructure. Teachers can increase students' academic motivation by increasing students' extrinsic motivation through teacher pedagogy and character. Teachers can also increase the intrinsic motivation of students who like to gain knowledge by their own efforts. On behalf of the school, the involvement of peers during school activities should be emphasized. Strategies to increase students’ academic motivation are available in various aspects including teacher character, teacher pedagogy and school activities. It is suggested that in future studies researchers use questionnaire research tools or a combination of questionnaire methods and interview methods to obtain more accurate comprehensive results and each strategy mentioned here can be studied further through experimental studies.
