Description
Summary:Based on safety and fire statistics, residential buildings in Malaysia are among the highest in the report of the Fire Services Department of Malaysia (JPBM). Dormitory type residential buildings have occupants of various backgrounds and are managed by the management team of the hostel organization which is given exposure related to fire safety. However, according to JPBM's annual report, the issue of fire in hostel type of homes is still high and needs to be given a guideline that is practiced consistently or used as a life cycle to ensure that the cause of the fire can be eliminated. This study aims to determine the practical relationship between fire drills, fire rules and procedures and management commitment to fire safety compliance in public university dormitories in the Northern Zone of Malaysia. The design of this study was descriptive and cross -sectional. The research method used is a quantitative study by conducting a survey questionnaire to collect data in selected universities. Respondents are comprised of a group of hostel management employees working in university hostels. A total of 150 sets of questionnaires were distributed to obtain the data of this study and analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling software "SMART PLS" to test the measurement evaluation based on Standard Beta, P Value and R2. The results showed that there was a significant positive relationship between fire drills, fire rules and procedures and management's commitment to fire safety compliance in public university hostels in the Northern Zone of Malaysia. The findings also indicate that fire drills, fire rules and procedures and management commitment play an important role in determining the level of fire safety compliance in university dormitory buildings.
