Summary:Communication is the most important factor in organization. The effective communication in organization can enhance job satisfaction and organizational commitment in organization. This research was carried out to find the level of job satisfaction and organizational commitment among the staff from the Prison Department. The purpose of this study was to find out if there were any difference between supervisor-subordinate communication, job satisfaction and commitment toward the organization based on the demographic factor. This study also carried out to identify the relationship between supervisor-subordinate communication, job satisfaction and commitment toward the organization in Prison Department. Questionnaires with a total of 65 questions were used as the research instrument. Respondents totaled 278 persons comprising of a randomly selected sample from Deputy Superitendent Prison to Prison Wader. The data collected were analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 11.0 software program. Statistical analysis techniques such as Pearson Correlation Test, T-Test, ANOVA and Regression were used to test 24 hypotheses. The findings revealed positive positive and significant relationships between supervisor-subordinate communication job satisfaction and commitment toward the organization. From the aspect of demographic factor, only the length of service in the organization that had a difference in supervisor-subordinate communication. Meanwhile, in the aspect of commitment toward the organization, demographic factors that had a difference were gender and age. From the aspect of job satisfaction, the difference that occurred were status of job and the length of service in the organization. Based on this study, implications from the findings were highlighted as an effort towards enhancing the supervisor-subordinate communication so that it also can enhance the job satisfaction and commitment toward the organization in Prison Department.
