description The purpose of this study is to measure the level of work stress and to ascertain the factors that lead to the work stress amongst divers appointed to Royal Malaysian Navy Diving Centre at Lumut Naval Base, Perak. The study also measure the relationship between the level of work stress and demography. Quantitative method using questionnaires being applied for this study. The study solely focus on the divers of Royal Malaysian Navy at Lumut Naval Base, Perak where 61 of 70 diving personnel took part as respondent. The instrument used for this study was adopted according the instrument produced by J. Barton Cunningham, PhD. D. Reliability test was done toward 25 Royal Malaysian Navy divers stationed at Lumut Naval Base which produced Alpha Cronbach value of 0.9439. Data obtained was analysed using the SPSS Version 11.3 software. Analysis of data showed that overall respondent work stress was at satisfactory level. The distribution level of respondent work stress level indicated 32.8% experienced low level of work stress, 59.0% experienced medium level of work stress and 8.2% experienced high level of work stress. Amongst the factor that contributes towards Royal Malaysian Navy’s divers was quantitative work load, organizational demand, job demand, interpersonal relationship especially management support. The study found that the demography factors such as ranks, experience, job qualification and appointment was not significant to course work stress to the respondent. This was the first study done for the Royal Malaysian Navy Diving Centre. It can be used as a step stone to explore the work stress of any naval or military establishment. The employees work stress should be properly manage for the safety of personnel and organization.
