Description
Summary:This study is objectively conducted to understand the correlations between teacher’s demographic factors such sexes, ages, teaching experiences, marital status and academic qualifications and principal leadership styles. The study is also aimed at indentifying the type of leadership that are being practised. A set of questionnaires has been used as an instrument to understand teachers’ perceptions toward the principal. Twelve schools under Yayasan Islam Kelantan were selected as samples of research involving 390 respondents. The study was based on a dual dimension approach theory introduced by Ohio State University with the emphasis on initiating structure and consideration. Five modified Likert scales were used to get an average reading of both behavior and leadership style. The t-test and ANOVA were then conducted to analyze the collected data. These tests showed that the mean of behavior and leadership style among the principal are almost indentical, that is 3.29 initiating structure and 3.30 consideration. All the principals practised democratic leadership style, that is high an initiating structure and consideration. However, the styles need to be improved since both average are considerately low. Therefore, suggestion was made to Yayasan Islam Kelantan to conduct more courses on leadership, management and administration in order to enhance the quality of leadership of principal. If excellent leaders are to be produced, appointment of the principals should be done thoroughly by Yayasan Islam Kelantan.
